Scott's Addition has become the go-to area in Richmond for local breweries and restaurants. Breweries include: Ardent, Vasen, The Veil, Star Hill, Buskey Cider and more. Restaurants include: Fat Dragon, Lucky AF (great sushi), ZZQ, Tazza Kitchen and others.
Cary Town is a cute area with lots of shops ranging from coffee (Sugar and Twine is fantastic), kitchen, clothing, and gifts (Mongrel is Alyssa's go-to). It's also home to the Byrd Theater, a single show movie theater that opened in 1928. It's best to park and walk Cary Street as it gets very busy.
Alyssa is a little biased on this one but if you're in the mood for a smoothie, this is the place to go!
This quaint coffee shop is Alyssa and Patrick's favorite.
Proper Pie is a fantastic shop in Church Hill diagonal to Patrick Henry Park. They serve New Zealand style hand pies and desert pies. This is one of Patrick's favorite spots and reminds him of his time spent in New Zealand! They have odd hours so be sure to check out their website for times.
If you are staying for an extended visit and wish to explore outside of Richmond, Charlottesville is about 1-1.5 hours away by car. The area is filled with rolling hills, fantastic wineries (suggestions linked), and great hiking opportunities. Patrick and Alyssa's first hike together was Old Rag in Charlottesville!
