A must visits site in the Black Hills! Free except for parking! Some hiking trails, and museums at the momument as well! They have evening shows in the ampitheater and light up the faces at night! The drive through the hills and area is beautiful too! Lots of ammusement parks in Keystone, SD for the older kids!
Crazy Horse is a ongoing sclupture of the Lakota Sioux Chief! The mueseum is a great chance to learn about the Native Americans of the Black Hills and great plains.
Sheridan lake is a stones throw distance away from the Diamond Spur Event Center and is a great place for to go camping, fishing, swimming, hiking, cliff jumping, or rent a boat or paddle boat for the day! If you want to experience the outdoors in Black Hills we would 10/10 recommend Sheridan Lake!
Spearfish is a town located in the northern hills and where we met! We had our first date at the D.C. Booth Fish Hatchery. This is a great place for kids and adults alike, you can see large trout and can feed the fish! It is in the city park that has Spearfish Creek running through, you can play some raquetball, walk the path along the creek, or let the kids burn some energy on the beautiful playground. When your done, be sure to grab a beer for the Spearfish Brewery, or go across the street for some of the best ice cream in the world at Leon's. For the adventurers, you can kind Crow Peak or Lookout Mountain. When your done in town make sure you drive back through Spearfish Canyon, where you can see three waterfalls from the road, Bridal Vail, Roughlock, and Spearfish.
Visit the historic town of Deadwood! You can grab some lunch, witness a wild west shootout, visit the graves of Wild Bill Hitchcock and Calamity Jane, and test you luck on the slots. There are old mines you can visit as well!
Whether your just out sightseeing or are looking for an adventure Sylvan Lake is a beautiful place! Serene and majestic tucked up in the hills, you can also hike to the highest point east of the Rockies, Black Elk Peak! Katherine's favorite trail, Sunday Gultch trails, sits just behind the lake.
Bear Country USA is a fun drive through wildlife park where you can see bears, elk, wolfs, coyotes, and more! Great for all ages!
Reptile Gardens boasts the largest collection of reptiles in the world! Snakes, tortoises, and crocadiles! They have it all!
This is a great petting zoo with lots of fun things for kids!
The badlands are just outside of the Black Hills. They are impressive and beautiful land formations and a fossil hotspot! Lots of hiking trails and wildlife can be seen here, or just drive through and embrace their beauty!
A natural mineral hot springs pool! Lots of fun for kids with a kiddy pool, slides, and lilly pads. The adults will love relaxing here too! A unique way to experience the Black Hills.
The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs is an active paleontological dig site, which boasts the largest concentration of mammoth remains in the world!
The museum is home to “Stan”, the 2nd largest and 2nd most complete T. Rex skeleton ever found. Their extensive collection includes many other dinosaurs, marine fossils, minerals, meteorites and more.
