Flight
The Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport (ATH) is the main airport to travel into in Greece. If flying from Minnesota, we recommend leaving from the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and traveling through Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, New York JFK, or Atlanta. Once you arrive in Athens, you will need to take a car (rent a car or hire a car service) or bus (there is an hourly bus service) to Patras, which is about 2.5 hours away.

Rental Car
There are ample car rental options at the Athens airport. If you need an automatic car, please make sure to note that in your car rental reservation as the default will be a manual car. We recommend renting a smaller vehicle as roads and parking spaces are narrow. You do not need a special license to drive in Greece, any U.S. state license will work.
Travel Note
There is an express bus that leaves ever 30 minutes- one hour from the main Athens bus station to Patras. You will need to take a city bus or taxi/uber from the airport to the main bus station in Athens and then transfer to the express bus to Patras. Bus tickets from Athens to Patras are about $25-$30. All information on the bus travel, including how to get to the Athens bus station from the airport can be found in the link below (you'll need to copy and paste). https://www.patrasinfo.com/en/bus-from-athens-to-patras/
Travel Note
In Patras, there are three main modes of public transportation, all of which are economical and safe - light rail, taxi, or bus. The light rail will take you through downtown Patras and into the suburbs where many of the hotels, restaurants, bars, and beaches are. There is only one light rail line and it is very easy to navigate. Taxis are easy to find, especially in the busier areas, and can take you all around downtown Patras and the suburbs. Apple and Google Maps work well in Greece as a GPS service for either walking or driving.
