Every year, our church, UBC Waco, opens the building during “dead days” and stocks it with snacks and coffee to give to sleep-deprived college students cramming for final exams. In May of 2018, we were two of those students, though, we’d be lying if we said we knew right then that we’d be where we are today. We were really just acquaintances. After graduating, Kailey moved to Dallas and Colton stayed in Waco. We maintained a level of curiosity about one another and kept up with each other’s lives from a distance. In February of 2020, Kailey came to visit Waco and decided to try out the new bar, Sloane’s. It didn’t take long for her to realize the cute guy slinging drinks behind the bar was Colton (cue swooning), and it didn’t take him long to recognize the friendly face he had first met at UBC dead days a few years before. A few months later, in the midst of the global pandemic, Kailey moved back to Waco for grad school. We wish we could say we had the guts to go out on our own, but we have to thank swiping right and matching on Bumble for giving us the courage to do what we probably would’ve never done otherwise.
