Katrina lived in NYC for ten years and for almost all of them was best friends with Santino DeAngelo. One day, when Santino told Kat to come meet his cousin, Joe, who was visiting the city for a weekend, it was simply a friendly gesture. Kat knew tons of the DeAngelos- She was practically part of the family! Joe and Kat hit it off at the group dinner but didn't think much of it... He was unavailable at the time. She did, however, innocently mention to Tino that "His cousin was her type." A few years later another DeAngelo; Marianna (Santino's little sister,) moved into Kat's apartment and soon after, Joe- how do the kids say- slid into Kat's DM's. He wanted to "see his cousin's new place," but Kat was leaving soon to do a show in Lancaster for a couple of months. What a coincidence, Kat would discover, that Joe would also be "passing through Lancaster" throughout the next few months to recruit for his wrestling team. After weeks of visits from Joe in Lancaster, and him even seeing the show she was in twice, Kat would later learn that he was in fact driving 3 hours out of his way every time he visited her. The two spent that summer developing a strong friendship, sharing countless 4 hour FaceTime calls, and falling deeply in love with one another.
After 3 and half years in a (short) long distance relationship- Joe at West Point, NY and Kat in NYC- the pair finally signed a lease to move in together in Beacon, NY come January 2022! Kat assumed that sometime after they moved in Joe would pop the question. Which is exactly why he bamboozled the pants off of her when he did it on November 21st, 2021. On that crisp beautiful day Joe said he planned for them to go to a nice dinner near West Point (they are both foodies so this wasn't out of the ordinary by any means.) Joe had to "Swing by West Point to say hello to a recruit before dinner." Also very normal. Joe always had recruit things happening so Kat thought nothing of it. So she waited in the car while he went in to "meet the recruit." A few minutes later a co-worker of Joe's pulls up in his car beside Kat and says "Joe took that recruit over to Trophy point and doesn't know long he'll be so I'm gonna drop you off there." Kat didn't hesitate to hop in the car and go meet them. As she pulled up to the breath taking views of Trophy Point she noticed a bunch of cadets standing in two rows, each holding a red rose. She turned to Joe's co-worker in the car and said, "uh-oh these guys are all holding roses...either something really happy is happening or something really sad." She was completely oblivious and assumed a funeral was taking place because there's no world where Joe was proposing to her today...right? She stepped out of the car and began to recognize the faces of the cadets holding roses...these weren't just random cadets...these were the guys on the wrestling team... the guys she had known for years...but what were they all doing here and why were they holding roses....and why was there a woman taking pictures of Kat??? Finally it hit her. She walked down the aisle of roses shaking and laughing. It was all too surreal. "Is this really happening?" She asked the team members. They assured her, "It's happening, Kat." At the end of the aisle stood Joe waiting for Kat, holding a single red rose. He took her hand, gave her the rose, and walked her to the edge of the point over looking the Hudson. He got down on one knee and said beautiful words that Kat will never remember because she was absolutely blacking out, and then he asked her the big question, "Will you marry me?" Overwhelmed by the surprise and joy Kat burst into laughter and tears and shouted, "YES!" The team cheered, Joe and Kat popped champagne, and then they made their way back to the city where Joe had arranged for Kat's best friends to be waiting with a surprise engagement party that night! It was truly one of the greatest days of their lives. And yes. Joe absolutely nailed it.
