FAQs

Question

When should we book our flights?

Answer

The best time to book was a month ago. The second best time to book is today!

Question

We can't make it to Portugal, will there be any events in the US?

Answer

We absolutely understand that a trip to Portugal is not feasible for all of our loved ones. We invite everyone to join us for a casual celebration in NYC on Saturday, July 25th, 2026.

Question

What dates should we be in Portugal?

Answer

We would recommend arriving at least one day ahead of the wedding (so, May 13th) and staying at least one day after (May 15th) but we also encourage everybody to make a trip out of it! Portugal is fantastic, and the country is roughly the size of Maine or Indiana, so there is plenty to see and do.

Question

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

Absolutely, we have a wide price range of hotel and guesthouse suggestions. Please review our recommendations on the Travel page of this website.

Question

Can I bring my children?

Answer

While we highly encourage international travel from a young age, children may not attend the wedding activities on May 14th. We will soon have a recommendation for local babysitting services to share with you.

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

The dress code is Formal, so please dress to impress. Pull out that awesome piece in the back of your closet that you never have an excuse to wear. Except David Bennett- Asher says you are required to wear your seersucker suit.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony?

Answer

NO! Sorry to yell at you there, but there is no parking at the venue, and street parking is extremely limited nearby. We very strongly suggest you take a Bolt/Uber/taxi/tuktuk to the venue.

Question

We don't speak Portuguese!

Answer

Don't panic. English is widely spoken! Here's a good guide for some basic phrases to help you get by: https://www.trafalgar.com/real-word/basic-portuguese-phrases/ One thing to note: "a coffee" (um café) in Portugal means an espresso!

Question

Do I need cash?

Answer

While you don't strictly need cash, all businesses in Portugal are legally required to accept it, and some smaller places are cash-only. The situation is similar to most US cities, and ATMs are widely available. Avoid Euronet ATMs, however, as they charge a large fee. When paying with cards, you will also have the option to pay in USD or Euros, in almost every case it is better to pay directly in Euros.

Question

What's the etiquette for tipping?

Answer

Tipping isn't standard or expected. Once servers realize you're a tourist, they will probably imply you should tip, but you aren't obligated to do so. If you do decide to leave a tip, 5-10% is the normal range, not the 15-20% you may be used to in the US.
