In the summer of 2023, Kyle and Katie each signed up for a neuropsych class. Kyle should’ve taken it two years ago, and Katie didn’t actually need to take it at all. Lucky for Kyle, on the first day of class, the professor announced a group project, and Kyle knew exactly who he wanted in his group—the beautiful girl in the second row of the lecture hall. Katie agreed—purely for academic reasons, of course. Kyle took his role as helpful group member very seriously and what started as a simple class assignment turned into easy conversation and a solid friendship that outlasted the syllabus. The class ended, but the talking didn’t. Somewhere between group projects, laughter, and a lot of time spent together—voluntarily—it became clear their relationship no longer had anything to do with school. On their first date at Tavern in the Square (after class, of course), Kyle told Katie someday he’d take her to Italy. And that’s exactly where they spent their first anniversary when they backpacked through Europe for five weeks. They’ve spent the intervening years axe-throwing, camping, hiking, and debating their favorite psychological theories. They decided they’d like to keep doing it all together, forever.
