The immediate Charlottesville area has over 40 wineries and is considered one of the premier wine tourism regions east of the Mississippi. The choice can be overwhelming, but some of our favorite spots are King Family Vineyards, Veritas, Pippin Hill, and Blenheim (owned by Dave Matthews himself). For non-wine drinkers, we also love Devil's Backbone (Roseland, VA location), Bold Rock Cidery, Pro Re Nata Brewery, and Ragged Branch Distillery (Warning: dark liquor - no Hume's allowed).
The Downtown Mall offers hours of entertainment with endless award-winning restaurants, bars, and shopping. Some of our favorite food spots include The Whiskey Jar, Bang!, and Citizen Burger. For a drink, visit The Fitzroy, The Livery Stable, or Miller's Downtown.
The UVA campus is commonly known as the Grounds. It is known for its Jeffersonian architecture and place in U.S. history as a model for college and university campuses throughout the country. It is also one of the only educational institutions to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Carter's Mountain offers apple orchards, wine, fresh apple cider, their famous apple cider donuts, as well as one of the best viewpoints in the region. Great for an easy daytime activity and only 10-15 minutes from downtown Charlottesville.
The Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah National Park are about a 30 minute drive and offer a variety of hiking trails to explore. One of our favorite shorter day-hikes is Humpback Rock, which offers easy access from I-64 and beautiful panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you're feeling extra adventurous, hike to the top of Humpback Rock before sunrise to experience one of the best sunrises in the area!
