Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Catalina Fitzpatrick and Cole Miles
We are so excited to celebrate with you in the Bay of Islands. This is where Cole spent much of his childhood, and a place Catalina immediately fell in love with. It’s hard not to fall in love with this area! With its beautiful beaches, small towns, and local cafés, there’s so much to see and do. We’ve put together a list of our favourite spots and hope they become some of your favourites too.
Russell

Russell

Russell, New Zealand

Just a 15-minute ferry ride from Paihia, this quaint historic town is perfect for a relaxed day of waterfront walks, local shops, and lunch by the harbour.

Kerikeri

Kerikeri

Kerikeri, New Zealand

Cole’s hometown! We recommend visiting the Stone Store, New Zealand’s oldest stone building. It’s a beautiful riverside spot with a great café (also one of NZ's oldest buildings) and restaurant, making it an ideal morning or afternoon pitstop. (We may be a little biased, though…this is where Cole told Catalina he loved her for the first time :P). Kerikeri is around 30 minutes from Paihia/Waitangi.

Waitangi Treaty Grounds

Waitangi Treaty Grounds

Waitangi, New Zealand

One of NZ's most important historic sites, overlooking the Bay of Islands. We highly recommend visiting Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi, which “weaves together the stories and taonga (treasured objects) which bring to life the history of Waitangi and Aotearoa New Zealand’s founding documents”.

Urupukapuka Island

Urupukapuka Island

New Zealand

The largest island in the Bay of Islands, known for white-sand beaches, clear water, walking tracks, and great swimming. Accessible by ferry or water taxi from Paihia or Russell (30-45 minutes).

Beach Hopping!

Beach Hopping!

New Zealand

One of our favourite things to do in the Bay of Islands is beach hopping! The coastline is dotted with stunning beaches, so there’s plenty to choose from. Some of our favourites are Mahinepua Peninsula, Matauri Bay, Taupō Bay, and Te Tengaere Bay. If you’re visiting Russell by car (via the car ferry), we also highly recommend Elliot Bay. It’s where our engagement photos were taken!
