Question

Our Story

Answer

Welcome to our wedding page. If you are reading this you probably know at least one of us. In that case you probably know that they spent much of their youth training towards the top level of an obscure olympic sport, and some might say even further that it defined them to their friends. For the other… well you could say the same. Respectively Bonita with gymnastics and Colby with skiing. Unfortunately, neither of us quite made it, but that competitive spirit drives us both and can even create some friendly banter. We met playing kickball at Seattle’s Gasworks park where Colby kept telling Bo to duck so that he could make all the catches, and the rest is history. Some might say we have many of the same tendencies, one of which is a fairly restless spirit and the need to stay busy. Early in our relationship we were able to bond by taking up one of our outdoor hobbies including rock climbing, mountain, biking and skiing. Further down the road we spent more time in the water which brought surfing into the fray. Bo didn’t quite take to the wind yet but we’re working on it! After a trip to Hawaii where we visited Colby’s uncle Michael, there in a land of turtles, warmth, safe waves and no wetsuits, the love for surfing blossomed. And for this reason we are dragging you all on vacation with us to Todos Santos.

Answer

We’ve taken each other out of our respective comfort zones in other ways as well. Colby has finally learned to use chopsticks, and has eaten many specialties that he still cannot pronounce including hot soups. This was especially true in not one, but two times Bo got him out to Asia… once in the middle of winter. Culture shock to say the least. And even though Bo was actively looking for a guy without a van, she soon realized that this guy had a van and subsequently learned that she would be sleeping in one every weekend at the ski resort. This is where she learned the importance of Gore-Tex and extra gloves. Thankfully the van had a heater and came loaded with only a handful of breakdowns and roadside emergencies. The things we do for love. As much as these larger experiences can explain a relationship it was the small day to day events that really defined it. Cooking together, going to events, watching each other’s sports team and pretending like you care, and most importantly having a friend to hang out with after a long day of work. We balance the good with the bad and successes with failures, knowing that we will always be there for one another. Life is not a straight line, and we both can’t wait to continue on this winding and bumpy road together. Thanks for sharing this moment with us.
