How we met

First comes school, then comes marriage

I walk into "The Perch" to meet with the 1851 Entertainment Club. We are planning our last open mic before the summer. I notice a tall and lanky guy with dark brown hair who looks just my type if he wasn't dressed head to toe in SJU clothing (turns out he was wearing them "ironically"). This guy is speaking enthusiastically about bringing sand into the perch for our last open mic and I am wondering; 1. who is this guy? 2. where did he come from? 3. how is he getting sand into the perch? Well, it turns out his name is Nick and he is a senior who had no intention of following through his grand sand plan. Later that night we went to the campus bar with the rest of the club members and Nick kept trying to talk to me but we were interrupted. It wasn't the right time. Nick asked me to go to the beach that summer, but again the timing wasn't right and I was away on vacation. Fast forward a year, it is the end of March and the end of my sophomore year. A couple of friends were filming a music video for a final project. I read through the invite list and saw "Nick Crippen" and decided to go. (Nick now informs me he did the same). After the filming was over we went to that same campus bar. We laughed, we drank (water, because I was 19 at the time), we even piggy back raced the baseball team out front of the bar and won. Nick, like the gentleman he is, offered to drive me home. We pulled up to Sherwood Avenue. We kept talking and I let Nick know he was about to run out of gas. He didn't care and I could tell he was nervous. The sun was starting to set and there we shared our first kiss in his red Saturn Ion. Hey, now we are getting married!

The Proposal

April 7, 2018

It was Saturday and we wanted to go to Longwood Gardens for the first time. The entire ride there, we did not say a single word to each other. I knew something was up. After we got our tickets we found a tiny patch of daffodils. it was still cold out so nothing was blooming yet, except these pretty little yellow flowers (my favorite color growing up was yellow). A couple was approaching us and Nick told me to go stand in the patch of flowers while he asked them to take our photo. The most awkward man wearing a Streetlight Manifesto hoodie asked if we had a specific pose because we were just standing there uncomfortably. Nick responded with, "yeah I have something in mind," and got down on one knee. I immediately started crying and said yes.
