Zoológico De Cali
This is one of the first things Cody did when he went to Colombia back in 2015. Colombia is known for the condor which is the largest bird in the world! If you decide to visit, don't miss the only white tiger in South America!
Casa Museo Hacienda El Paraíso
Visiting this Hacienda was one of Cody's favorite things to do! It is known worldwide for being the setting for the summit novel of Latin American romanticism: "María", a masterpiece by Colombian writer Jorge Isaacs.
Museo de la Caña de Azúcar
Located in Piedechinche, Museo de la Caña is a place that represents sugar cane, the activity that became the engine of the department and is also an emblem of the Valle del Cauca people.
Iglesia Ermita
Stop by and admire Iglesia La Ermita, a landmark of Cali. Inspired by the Gothic style of Ulm Cathedral in Germany, this smaller-scale church was built in 1942 to replace a 17th-century chapel destroyed in an earthquake.
El Gato del Río
In 1996, in an attempt to recover and make the area visually appealing, painter and sculptor Hernando Tejada donated "El Gato del Río". 10 years later, the city promoted an exhibition of 15 complementary sculptures, "Las Gatas del Río", in order to "find a girlfriend" for the original cat. Multiple renowned Colombian artists participated in the design of these cats. Note that none of these cats are as pretty as Juana is :)
Bulevar del Río
Due to its location, the boulevard is in an area with several places of historical interest, such as the different sculptures of "El Gato del Río". At its eastern end, the boulevard connects with Parque de los Poetas and the Ermita Church.
San Antonio
Because of its colonial-style architecture, this neighborhood has become a favorite for tourists, students, artisans and locals. Walking down the streets of San Antonio is definitely a must when touring the city and enjoying its art, culture and restaurants.
Museo La Tertulia
Here you can find important collections of American and Colombian art. The museum consists of three buildings: a main gallery with 300 works by national and international artists and an art workshop for children; an arthouse theater; and a building for printing and restoration workshops. There is also a very nice coffee shop/ restaurant located there called "el patio de la Tertulia".
Cerro de Las Tres Cruces
If you have no plans on a sunday, you can hike up "Cerro de Las Tres Cruces" to enjoy some fresh air and see the beautiful views from up the mountain. The story behind the "Tres Cruces" (or three cruces) is that they were put up there by some friars to bless the city after it was cursed. This activity should be preferably done very early in the morning, since this should take you maximum 2 hours to hike up and then down.
Galería Alameda
Galería la Alameda is a local farmers market, where you can find fresh vegetables, meats and fruits. Its definately a must do if you want to try all sort of fruits that are found in Colombia.
