McKenna and Cody met in the Summer 2016 working together in Fayetteville, Arkansas while both were attending college. Cody was pursuing a Computer Engineering degree while McKenna was working on a degree in Hospitality Management. They became friends and hung around the same people throughout their years at school and people always mentioned their connection and constantly asked when they would just date already! When McKenna graduated in 2018, she had to move back home to Frisco, Texas for a job opportunity. McKenna and Cody kept in touch and just a few short months later Cody took a job in Arlington which was just 30 minutes away from where McKenna was working. They picked up where they left off and began dating October 1st 2018 (although their friends would argue they actually were secretly dating the whole time).

The two went on a trip to Denver, Colorado in March of 2021. Being the Event Planner that she is, McKenna had the entire week packed full of fun activities for the two to enjoy. Cody had suggested some fun places to visit and one of those places was the Denver Botanical Gardens. Now unfortunately for Cody, McKenna put that activity on day three of their trip, so he had to anxiously wait to pop the question. Looking back, no one is sure how he managed to wait that long without making her suspicious. The day finally came! On March 24th, 2021, McKenna set up a tripod to take some cute photos in the garden and little did she know, Cody had set the phone to record as he dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him!
