Emily and I are both huge animal people! One of my favorite places since moving here from Pittsburgh is the Zoo. If you ever watched Johnny Carson with his animal guests, they were most likely animals from the San Diego Zoo. From wildlife and animal preservation, to truly caring about all animals, there is a reason the San Diego Zoo is the best in the world. We highly recommend going to see all of the animals! My favorites are the gorillas, Emily's are the koalas.
Growing up, Old Town was my favorite escape from reality. From Girl Scout adventures learning about the settlers, to yummy Mexican candy from the candy store, to creating candles with my dear cousin. Old Town has some of the coolest, most vibrant history you could imagine. You can also catch a play at their Cygnet Theatre which during this time of the year does a wonderful rendition of, A Christmas Carol! So sit back, each a taco or enchilada, and enjoy the beautiful culture of San Diego!
Part of San Diego history includes the relationship between the Native Americans of the Kumeyaay tribe as well as the Spaniards. This is a great historical site to understand the difficult and emotional history behind the settlement of San Diego, and is extremely interesting and important in understanding life today! Food for thought, you should ask Emily about her 4th grade Mission Project and which California Mission she got. It is quite the story!
One of my favorite places to hike around is Mt. Helix! You can easily see from downtown SD to Tijuana! Truly a gem in the hills being in La Mesa, where Emily was born and raised! So if you are up for a little morning moderate hike do it!
If you love views this is the place for you! Witnessing the Lighthouse and Cabrillo Monument is a force to be reckoned with! Rich in history and sites (and wind), plus tide pool access! Ever touched a sea cucumber or a starfish? Well today just might be your lucky day!
Julian is the place to go for all San Diegans to experience a winter wonderland! A far drive, but worth it when you go have a piece of warm apple pie with cinnamon ice cream on top! A good way to get out of the city when you need it!
We love sandwiches! Our favorite, hole in the wall, family owned and operated sandwhich shop is, The Gourmet Bagger! Emily's go to is a Pesto Turkey Bagger, extra pesto, no tomatoe. Andrew goes between the Tuna Grinder, Bagger Cheesesteak, or the Gourmet Grinder. Oh and of course a crisp Dr. Pepper to have with!
Hands down some delicious food. Perfect for picky eaters and adventurous types! There is truly something for everyone!
If you want some damn good Mexican food, this is the place to go. A family favorite right here! Make sure to get the non-alcoholic Hummingbird smoothie, or a Watermelon Margarita! (Sister locations to Casa De Pico are also located in Old Town!)
If you haven't tried Korean Barbeque at least once in your life, well you haven't lived. Welcome to Convoy Street, home to all Asian cuisines! We highly recommend the Teriyaki Beef Belly and Brisket! And check out desert all up and down the Street! There is everything from Thai Shaved Ice Cream, to Boba!
Try some delicious traditional Chinese food in a beautiful ambiance! We promise you won't be disappointed! Don't forget to try the Crab Rangoon!
Some damn good BBQ! A great place to have a messy delicious dinner, watch some sports and eat some ribs!
