How We Met

We are incredibly fortunate to have friends who like to meddle in our personal lives. Our mutual friend, Lindsay, spent several months purposefully inviting the two of us to the same group events, and she has thoroughly enjoyed taking all the credit (or blame, depending on who's asking) for us finally getting together. After several months of "just so happening" to see each other almost every weekend, Mark asked me out in the summer of 2016. I said yes, and the rest is history!

The Proposal

December 13th, 2018 We had made plans to go the Pacers game together later that evening, so we decided to spend the afternoon at a few of our favorite spots in downtown Indianapolis. I had a sneaking suspicion that the proposal might be coming soon, but I had no idea it would be that day specifically. As the day went on, Mark told me that he had gotten us reservations at the Eagles Nest for dinner, and I got even MORE suspicious. We enjoyed a beautiful, romantic meal overlooking the city, but alas, dinner ended and there still wasn't a ring. When the Pacers game was over, we stopped to get a drink to avoid the traffic, and then headed back home. At this point I had already come to the conclusion that the proposal wasn't happening that night, since it was well after 10 PM, and I started to fall asleep in the car after a fun and eventful day. Meanwhile, Mark was becoming increasingly nervous and fidgety in the seat beside me the closer we got to home. Little did I know that while we were downtown all afternoon, Mark's friend (and future best man) Malcolm, had gone to the apartment and set up flowers, twinkle lights, rose petals, and music under Mark's specific instructions. It was the most surreal moment as we walked in the door, and I saw that scene before me. All I remember was saying "What is happening?" over and over again, before Mark smiled and finally said, "Go on and see." I walked down the hallway lined with lights and petals to read the card that was sitting on the table next to a dozen roses. When I finally turned back around to say something, Mark was down on one knee with the most gorgeous ring in his hand. It was such a special and unforgettable night for the two of us.
