The Des Moines Downtown Farmers’ Market is a must-visit! Pappajohn Sculpture Park is a fun and easy downtown stop if you want to stretch your legs and see something unique. This open-air park features massive, colorful sculptures by world-famous artists that are perfect for wandering, snapping a few photos, and enjoying the skyline views. It is free, walkable, and just a short stroll from great restaurants and bars nearby.
Drake University is where we met, so it will always be a special place for us. If you have time, take a stroll through the beautiful campus, check out the iconic Griff statue, or wander through the surrounding Drake neighborhood. It is a quick trip from downtown and a fun way to see where our story began.
The Historic East Village is one of our favorite areas in the city and the spot for our first date at The Iowa Taproom. This lively neighborhood is packed with local restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and bars, all within a few walkable blocks. It is a great place to grab a drink, explore a little, and experience one of the most fun parts of Des Moines.
