Before we had started dating, we accidently went to a midnight yell together our sophomore year of college. For those none Aggies out there, Midnight Yell Practice is a tradition at Texas A&M where the students get together in the stadium the night before a game to practice our yells or cheers. It’s kind of a thing to go with a date so when we showed up together, our friend group thought we were on a date. I thought it was silly back then, but look at us now... Anyways, one of my friends had invited Tripp to Midnight Yell with us because Tripp had just recently transferred to A&M. We went to dinner as a group, but when we started walking to the stadium, our 2 other friends with us basically ran to the stadium leaving us behind because we weren’t walking fast enough. Didn’t bother me, I knew me and Tripp could walk over together. Tripp was hesitant about going but I forced him into going because he had never been! We spent that evening talking as we walked to Kyle Field together and we had lots of fun that night! Tripp even offered to walk me back to my apartment afterward. We had a good time laughing about silly things on our way back and when we got to my apartment I apologized to Tripp for forcing him to go. And he said to me “no big deal, the best part was spending the evening with you” and he walked away. That moment had always stuck with me, I could feel something tugging at my heart but I wasn’t sure what. I guess God had bigger plans for us and knew we’d cross paths again. 2 years later to be exact...
We actually went to the same highschool! But we barely knew each other then, it wasn’t until our last semester at Texas A&M that we began dating. It all started with a milkshake... and a heart shaped pizza! On Februrary 14, 2017, I had ordered a heart shaped pizza (extra buffalo sauce 😋) to treat myself after a long day of exams. I had always remembered that Tripp was a Valentine’s day baby, so when I opened the box to find my pizza I felt compelled to send a happy birthday message to Tripp. From there, we began talking every single day. On March 1, 2017 (our agreed upon dating anniversary), Tripp offered to bring me a chocolate milkshake for our first meet up since we began talking on his birthday. From that day forward, we were together almost every day and spent every moment we had free with one another. And now, almost 3 years later, we’re getting married and we couldn’t be more excited!!!! We’ve prayed over our relationship these past few years that we’d get married to each other one day soon and we can’t believe it’s finally happening!! We are beyond overwhelmed with love & joy for each other and now our closest friends and family will get to witness our love being bound together in the sacrament of holy matrimony. Thank you for your support and love over the years, we wouldn’t be here without it!
On my birthday (March 23rd) Tripp handed me an envelope and when I opened it, inside I found a print out of the Durango, Colorado website. Tripp told me that my birthday present was a week long camping trip to Durango in August. Little did I know, Tripp had bigger plans for Durango than I could ever imagine. In the months leading up to our trip, I suspected nothing. He threw me off the trail real good, I honestly just thought it was going to be a typical camping trip rather than an adventure of a lifetime. We left to Durango on August 2nd, and our first full day of camping took place August 5th. We camped out in San Juan National Forest and we had learned about a great hiking trail close by our campsite called Spud Lake trail. We decided to head up the trail that Monday, thinking it must be a great looking lake with how many people were hiking up that trail. It was an easy 1 mile gradual incline trail that lead up to this beautiful lake right in the middle of the mountains. The view was breathtaking from the mountains, to the trees, to the beautiful blue & clear water in the lake. Tripp actually set up my tripod to film a video of us having fun at the lake (later turned into a secret proposal video). He got me to turn around to look at a distant mountain, but when I turned back around there he was. On one knee. With a ring in his hand. I started crying and asking if he was kidding or playing a mean joke on me (I had been dreaming of this day since about 3 months into our relationship). Tripp laughed and said no that it was real and that he wanted to marry me. I said yes and we laughed and I cried from happiness. It was a beautiful moment and I couldn’t have asked for a better time with the love of my life. And that’s how we got engaged :)
