We met on Labor Day Weekend 2016 in Brooklyn, NY. I was in town visiting Pauline and she insisted that I meet her new friend Dan. She said we'd get along since we were both involved in early childhood development and children's music. So off to his Brooklyn home we went. I knew he was a one of a kind guy when I saw a HUGE Haitian flag in his window - that definitely caught my eye! We spent that afternoon talking, laughing, playing guitars, singing The Welcome Table and Up Above My Head, while eating guacamole with plantain chips. At the end of this beautiful and musical day, we took a picture together in the backyard. I remember the way it felt when he held me for the photo. Everything seemed just right. And it still does! That was a magical day to say the least, and one that makes me smile every time I think about it.
