The main street along the train tracks in historic downtown Truckee is impossibly charming. You'll find a gold rush hub still sporting its boomtown-era aesthetic, with saloon-style storefronts of boutiques, restaurants, and countless home decor shops that cater to rustic mountain life.
A favorite site to share! These remnants of the first-ever transcontinental railway stretch across two and a half miles of Donner Pass, with five sections of the original train tunnels still standing and now host to endless graffiti art. Bring extra layers and a flashlight, and wear sneakers or boots.
Beautiful waterfront park on the North side of Lake Tahoe. There are some cute shops and cafes along the main street, too. This is the most accessible lake access from our neighborhood.
Hiking, biking, boating, beach bumming, and more! Get there early because parking is limited.
Gorgeous 10-mile paved trail that follows the Truckee River out of Lake Tahoe. Perfect for an afternoon stroll, or you can rent bikes at the trailhead!
Another paved path along the Truckee River, this one right at home. Start from the top of the cliff at the end of our neighborhood for a stunning switchback, or meander by the waterfront downtown.
Lovely public beach on the California side of Lake Tahoe, convenient from route 89 or 267.
Kate's favorite beach on Lake Tahoe (so far), past Incline Village on the Nevada side. A bit out of the way and a $15 park fee, but so very worth it if you get there early.
