Question

What are your COVID protocols?

Answer

This event is entirely outdoors with the exception of restrooms where we will keep windows open and fans running. Every guest is required to be triple vaxxed (possibly quadruple come September). We will also require a PCR test up to a week in advance of your travel, and request that you quarantine between your appointment and our event. Please wear N95 masks on airplanes; cloth masks are no longer adequate against new variants. If you are unable to share your vaccination card and a negative test result upon arrival, we will ask that you wear a mask and social distance. Rest assured, we will not be offended by anyone's choice to not travel. This is a helluva time to be alive, and your health and safety come first.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Rustic casual with a fairytale flair, a.k.a. #cottagecore. Kilts are encouraged! Jeans are absolutely fine; throw a lovely blouse or blazer on with them. We suggest wedges if you *really* want to wear heels; stilettos will sink into the ground, but cute boots with your dress are a great option. Sun hats and parasols are also recommended. Bonus points for earth tones! Here is a Pinterest board to give you some guidance: https://pin.it/4Vv7cIJ

Question

What's the weather like?

Answer

Spring is at 11am. Summer is at 2pm. Autumn is at 5pm. Winter is at 8pm. Dress accordingly. But really, temperatures in the Sierra Nevada are desert conditions that swing broadly over the course of the day. Average highs for September are around 75ºF, with average lows around 35ºF. Wear modular layers, and bring extras. Also, it is exceptionally dry. Pack good body moisturizer, and keep your sinuses happy with saline spray, or a neti pot, or aquaphor. Maybe all of the above. (It is really quite dry.)

Question

What do I need to know about the elevation?

Answer

We are at altitude! The house sits at about 6000 feet above sea level, which means a few things: You will get winded more easily, and possibly light headed if you stand up too fast. Temperature is even more dependent on the sun! Direct light will be perfectly warm on bare skin, but you might need a sweater in the shade. Skin damage happens more quickly, so wear high SPF and hats. Effects of alcohol are typically stronger and faster; consume with extra self-awareness.

Question

There's no dinner on the schedule. What's the food situation?

Answer

To make the most of the beautiful daytime hours, we're doing a mid-day meal instead of an evening meal. There will be coffee, tea, juice, and light bites available as folks arrive for picnic-style mingling before the ceremony. Afterwards we'll celebrate with bubbly refreshments, and serve a full Mediterranean buffet for lunch. The buffet will remain open for the afternoon, with more bubbles and some wine and beer. Sweets will be served around 5pm with the family dances, then we newlyweds will lead a golden hour promenade through the meadow for the perfect golden hour photo op. We will do a proper sendoff at the pond, and escort everyone back to their cars at the Clubhouse parking lot. For anyone still hungry after nibbling with us all day, we're aiming to conclude our festivities with plenty of time to find dinner at your leisure in our lovely mountain town.

Question

Where should I park?

Answer

The Glenshire Devonshire Clubhouse Our neighborhood has limited street parking, so we've reserved the Clubhouse parking lot just down the road. It's a five-minute walk to the front door along Glenshire Drive, or a ten-minute walk through the meadow to the backyard. Carpool if you can! Swing by the house to drop your party and send a liaison to park the car, or head straight to the Clubhouse and enjoy the scenic walk together. We will be running a shuttle between the parking lot and the house before the ceremony and after the reception for anyone who wants a lift. If you need to be dropped at your car at another time, our coordinator will assist you.

Question

What does "smokeout date" mean?

Answer

In recent years, California has experienced the worst wildfires in its history, enough that August is now referred to as "fire season" because resulting air quality affects the entire West Coast. (Thanks, global warming.) It has persisted into September before, so we want to be prepared in case the AQI is too dangerous for an outdoor event. May 27th, 2023 is our top choice for a postponement, though we won't know for sure until we make the official call and discuss options with our vendors. Keep all your fingers and toes crossed for the mildest fire season this year! Since Covid is here to stay, we expect airlines will continue to honor no-penalty cancellations so you can bump your flights if necessary, and AirBnBs generally have a 7-day policy for a full refund. We will provide as much advance notice as possible. If this additional risk adds too many flavors of our apocalyptic zeitgeist to the event, we understand any and all reasons for not traveling at this time.
