There are 4 events total! Women are welcome to participate in Mehndi on Thursday to receive henna for the weekend. Haldi and Sangeet will both be held on Friday at the Sheraton Hotel to continue the Indian celebrations. The main event of the weekend will be the Catholic wedding ceremony and reception on Saturday.
Mehndi is a welcome event for the bridal party and women close to the bride. There will be mingling, light snacks, and a few henna artists for those that would like to receive henna on their hands. Women can wear summer dresses and skirts as well as Indian attire. Claire would encourage Indian attire for Friday's events over Mehndi, so something you already have in your closet will be perfect. Please see the link below for more information on Mehndi. https://culturalindia.net/weddings/wedding-rituals/mehndi-ceremony.html
Haldi is a lighthearted ceremony where guests will be invited to rub a blend of special spices on the happy couple for good luck. If you are wanting to participate by wearing an Indian outfit, Etsy or Amazon are great places to find one! Simply search "Haldi outfit for men/women." A Kurti set, Lehenga Choli, or Sharara set will be great for women and a Kurta for men. Vibrant colors like yellow and orange are best for Haldi! Sangeet is an upbeat event where people close to the bride and groom will perform choreographed dances, an Indian dinner will be provided as well as dancing into the evening. Rudhra and Claire encourage guests to wear Indian attire and participate in the fun! You can find outfits on Etsy or Amazon by searching "Sangeet outfits for men/women." Any color Saree, Lehenga Choli, or Salwar Kameez will be great for women and a Kurta or Sherwani for men. Within the Catholic faith, there are seven sacraments, including Holy Matrimony. Marriage, according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, is an indissolvable covenant established by God between one man and one woman for life (CCC 1601). Rudhra and Claire have chosen to be united within the Church so that their marriage will have God at its foundation. The Church advocates that marriage is a free, total, fruitful, and for life commitment between spouses. The wedding ceremony will be held within a Holy Mass celebration in three parts: the liturgy of the word, the marriage ceremony, and the liturgy of the Eucharist. Please arrive at least 20-30 minutes early. The ceremony will start promptly at 2:00pm.
Because we have limited space at each event, only invited guests are welcome.
Yes! Each child should be listed under the RSVP tab. If they are not, please reach out to Claire or Rudhra so they can be added.
There is free parking at both events. There is free parking at the church located in between California and Welton St. The address for the lot is 609 18th St. Once you are parked, see the kiosk and input your plate number and select "Holy Ghost Church." The code for parking is 216. There is free parking at the reception and a golf cart shuttle for those who need it.
The Indian events will be held at the Sheraton, also apart of our room block accommodations. If you would like minimal travel, we recommend staying at that same hotel. The Fairfield Inn is very close to the Sheraton (3 minute drive or 10 minutes walk). For the ceremony, Uber will be easiest or catch a ride with someone else coming from the hotels. We also recommend Uber for the reception as well.
The Gardens will be open for guests to arrive immediately following the ceremony. However, there will be no food or beverage services until 5:30pm. We suggest freshening up at your hotel/accommodation or grabbing a drink nearby before the reception begins.
