Claire and Riley met in 2019 at Oregon State at “Fratalina,” an event hosted by Riley’s fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi. It seemed like just another fun college night until their friend Andrew Horton played matchmaker and, in true How I Met Your Mother style, walked up and said, “Have you met Claire?” 7 years later, they decided to tie the knot!

Riley proposed in a way that couldn’t have been more fitting for us—up on Mount Hood at Government Camp with Murphy running around in the snow. We packed up our ski gear and sled, and I thought we were just heading out for a fun winter day together. After our first trip down the sled hill, Riley looked at me and said, “I have a question for you… but you’re going to need to stand up for this.” I had no idea what was coming. Standing there in the snow, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes without hesitation. What made it even more special was finding out he had planned the entire weekend. He had booked an Airbnb on the mountain and made dinner reservations at Timberline Lodge so we could celebrate together. The rest of the weekend was spent calling our family and friends to share the news and enjoy the moment. The proposal was a complete surprise to everyone—except his sister, who had helped him pick out the ring.
