FAQs

Question

Are kids allowed?

Answer

We love families of all sizes, especially the little kiddos, but we ask that the wedding ceremony and reception be an adult-only affair. We're hoping this will allow for all guests to focus their energy on the celebrations at hand and allow parents some time to relax :) Kids are more than welcome to join in the other weekend festivities such as whale watching, swimming in the resort pool, and playing Bocce on the lawn. The Roche Harbor Resort offers childcare services for the evening of the wedding. Please reach out to Claire or Laurent if this is something you are interested in- we are more than happy to help set this up.

Question

Who gets a "plus one?"

Answer

All invited guests, including dates or "plus ones", are named on the save-the-dates and formal invitations.

Question

Where exactly is Roche Harbor/San Juan Island?

Answer

Roche Harbor is a small harbor on San Juan Island, which is a part of a group of islands called "The San Juan Islands." These islands are in the Puget Sound, Northwest of Seattle, accessible by private boat, public or private plane, and most commonly, ferry boats departing from Anacortes. Anacortes is roughly an hour and a half north of Seattle, but beware of bad traffic especially around rush hour.

Question

When should I arrive?

Answer

Assuming most will drive/take the ferry once in Seattle, we are all held to the ferry schedule. The ferry to/from Anacortes only comes a few times per day so missing the ferry could risk missing part of the wedding if you plan on arriving day-of. For those flying in to Seattle, please take any close connection times to the ferry departing into consideration (a rule of thumb is the earlier the flight departs in the morning, the less likely it is to be delayed). In sum, we recommend making a ferry reservation, and hope most are able to join us the evening before, Thursday 9/6. That night we'll have welcome drinks hosted at 8:00 at Shipwreck Beach.

Question

Do I have to stay at Roche Harbor Resort?

Answer

You may stay in whatever accommodation suits your needs best, however we are encouraging our guests to stay at the resort for a few reasons. Its close proximity to all events will make logistics much easier, and provide great opportunity for you to rub shoulders with our other friends and family. Roche Harbor Resort has accommodations with a wide variety of housing options (single rooms to condos to multi-room/family houses) that also vary widely in price. However these are all limited in number so be sure to call the resort directly and use the code DUGAW18 for make the reservations. There are a few Airbnbs available on the island, but please keep in mind they may be far away, taxis are limited, and Uber/Lyft is not available on the island (say what?!).
