Flight
Wilmington's local airport is about a 20 minute drive away from downtown and the beach! There are seasonal direct flights from Boston, and regular direct flights from many other large airports. Alternatively, you can fly into Myrtle Beach or Raleigh, but each of these will require a ~2 hour drive. We'd recommend flying straight here!
