This is the best and most convenient convenient airport to Antigua. Note: Guatemala City traffic can be very heavy on weekdays mornings and evenings, please take this into account when booking transportation to the airport. With heavy traffic and potential accidents, please budget 2 hours in peak times or consult with the shuttle company.

Currency: The Quetzal. US dollars are widely accepted throughout Antigua, but it is not an official currency. If you plan to use Quetzals, we recommend taking money out of an ATM when you arrive in Antigua as the local airport exchange rate is poor. There are many ATMs available near banks and city squares.

If you are interested in a local cell phone plan there are several options: eSIMs are purchasable via any eSIM app and have a variety of costs and GBs. You can also purchase a SIM card in the airport at the Claro kiosk prior to passing through customs. 8GB of data will cost ~18 USD. Note: If you plan on using a SIM card, please ensure your cellphone is unlocked.

Medical Facilities: In general, private hospitals are more reliable than public facilities. Please note that immediate cash payment is expected for health services. The local climate is generally dry with minimal bugs in January, but we suggest packing sunscreen and bug spray. It's best to stay on the safe side and only drink purified water, “agua pura”, available in nearly all restaurants, bars, etc. Try to avoid eating street food.
