Our story began in the fall of 2020 in Japanese 1301 at Baylor University. Claire sat in the front row, refusing to wear her glasses, while Jack sat behind her. Our interactions were limited at first—mostly classroom assignments—though Claire once successfully translated Jack’s phone number from Japanese to English (a fact she discovered later when we started dating). In Spring 2021, during Japanese 1302, Jack noticed Claire’s Pokémon plushie on Zoom and sent her a message. What started as casual texting quickly turned into daily conversations lasting well into the night. When an ice storm shut down campus, we met outside of class for the first time over free coffee at Common Grounds. Claire was so nervous she brought her roommate (and now maid of honor) Claire Hill along! By March, we were inviting each other to our birthdays and spending more time together. After Jack’s 20th, Claire asked him to rate his birthday. His real answer—"It would’ve been a 10 if I’d kissed you"—came true soon after when Claire confessed her feelings. Our first date was classic: burgers at In-N-Out followed by Pride & Prejudice. From there, we navigated college life together, graduating in May 2023. After moving back to Dallas and Fort Worth for our jobs, we started attending Jack’s childhood church, Highland Park United Methodist, where we’ll tie the knot. In October 2024, Jack planned a surprise during our London trip. He brought Claire to Chatsworth House—Mr. Darcy’s estate from Pride & Prejudice—and arranged a private moment in the tower to propose. It was a perfect ending to 3.5 amazing years together and the beginning of our next chapter.
