The main characters of our tale originally became acquainted during their time studying and residing within the campus of SUNY Brockport. They would encounter each other at gatherings (programs and parties at college), honed their skills in combat courses together (judo class at college), and had chance meetings during summer adventures (the renaissance faire). But, the two remained only in a passing friendship. Both had other persons, studies, and occupations that kept them from pursuing any closer attachment.

Many years later, our protagonists were again brought together by serendipity. They both happened to be attending a festive holiday celebration (ugly sweater party), not knowing the other would be there. After some time spent getting reacquainted, as one could not recall the other's name, the remainder of the evening was spent on laughter and refreshments (partying with drinking games and snacks). After this reconnection, they would begin to spend more and more time together, in the company of their mutual friends. When they weren't working, the group was spending their time together, or trying to schedule their next meeting (lots of movie nights and group texts). All the while, the duo became closer and began discussing the prospect of a courtship. Until, finally (after almost 5 months), they were able to schedule (via Tinder chat) the first outing for just the two of them.
