Elise and Evan "met" at The Hong Kong, a bar in Boston's Faneuil Hall in December of 2017. Scorpion bowls were drank and karaoke was sung... just not with one another. Evan caught Elise's eye from across the bar that night and her cousin Julie approached him. She told Evan that he looked like Elise's celebrity crush, SNL cast member Kyle Mooney (there's another funny bar story about him, but that's for another time), and that he should talk to her. Evan, who had been living in London, was home visiting family for the holidays and was out for a night of fun with some of his soccer friends that he hadn't seen in months. While he thought Elise was cute, it didn't seem like the right time to be chatting up a random girl at a bar. The end of the night was approaching and Elise’s group of friends retrieved their coats and were heading for the door. As they readied to leave, Julie approached Evan once more and gave him a hard time for not talking to her cousin. Evan apologized and she told him that she should call Elise, passing him a piece of paper with her name and phone number. While Evan may have been dumb enough to not approach Elise that evening, he was smart enough to not pass up the opportunity to text her later that weekend. They went on several dates before Evan’s return to London after the holidays, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Evan proposed to Elise in London, at a park close by to their flat. That said, the proposal story really starts the previous Christmas when Evan and Elise bought tickets to a Red Sox/Yankees game to be played in London in June and gave tickets to all of their immediate family members. With their parents and siblings all visiting London for the game, it would be the first time that their whole families had ever been together. Evan knew how important it was to them both to have their families present to celebrate the engagement, and started planning to propose in June. When the time came, Evan arranged to have a picnic at an East London park and made sure that he and Elise would get there first to setup. With Evan and Elise’s sisters hiding in the bushes, ready to take pictures and capture the moment, Evan got down on one knee and proposed, absolutely shocking Elise. Their sisters came out from the bushes and their parents arrived shortly thereafter, and everyone toasted the couple with some champagne and a lovely picnic. The proposal was the highlight of a great trip shared by both families. Please don’t remind them of the nearly five hour long baseball game in the hot summer sun.
