Travel Note
While visiting NY, the subways and busses now all use electronic entry from your phone, as long as you have a card associated to it. There is no need to purchase a Metro Card if you have it set up. Just lay your phone on the screen at the turnstiles or on the bus. If you don't have electronic pay set up on your phone, Metro Cards are still accepted on all busses and trains. Subways are often faster than cabs when getting around, and if you get directions from Google Maps or other phone-based navigation systems, they will often give you very explicit directions on which exit to leave from in the subway to be best positioned when you get out. Busses are less fast and don't come as often, but if you are interested in seeing the city, they are a great way to see where you are going. Cabs are less available than they used to be, but are reliable in most areas of the city during the day. If it's later in the evening or in certain areas, you may be better off grabbing a Lyft or Uber. Getting from Williamsburg to the city especially you will not have any luck with cabs, the train or a car service is recommended for that.
