Alex challenges anyone to try to beat his record of 77. Besides the fact that this golf course is across the street from the Romac's house, the groom loves it because of its "cheap beer, good golf." Located 40 mins from downtown Portland, if you want to play there will be plenty of people around with cars, including Alex, who will be more than happy to you give you a lift.
Old Port is the heart of Portland. This downtown historical neighborhood is considered the city's center and is filled with things to do. Lined with cobblestone streets and 19th-century warehouses, take a walk along the wharf and you'll really feel out-of-office.
Portland’s water views are glorious in this historic public park, where the harbor and Casco Bay are the backdrop for walking and running trails, cute dog watching (the bride's favorite) and more.
Beer is to Portland is what lobster is to Maine. Portland is considered by experts to be one of America's best beer cities. There are a variety of beer tours offered by businesses, including Maine Brews Cruise and the seasonal Bike and Brews Tour. For those who want to brewery hop on their own, Allagash (consistently recognized as Portland's best), Shipyard, Sebago, Rising Tide, Bunker Brewing Co, Austin Street Brewery, Maine Beer Co., and Liquid Riot are popular breweries.
Downtown Portland is a foodie's paradise. Check out Duckfat (best known for fries fried in duck fat), High Roller Lobster Company (famous for its lobster rolls), Fore Street, Eventide Oyster Co. (considered one of the best places to get oysters in the country!). Bao Bao Dumpling House, Honey Paw (great lunch spot), Taco Escobarr, Central Provisions, Flatbread Company, Scales, or Terlingua.
Founded in 1882, this is the oldest public art institution in the US. It's relatively small—more of a boutique museum—so you may be surprised when you walk in and see pieces from giants like Andy Warhol, Claude Monet, Wyeth, Homer, and Edward Hopper.
You can't go to Maine without seeing a lighthouse. Dating back to 1791, this is the oldest lighthouse in Maine, and arguably the most beautiful in New England. 20 minutes outside of Portland in Cape Elizabeth, this lighthouse was commissioned by George Washington and is the first built by the US government.
With hundreds of hills, mountains, and seaside cliffs, Maine is an excellent place to escape into the woods and climb some mountains to see stellar views. A few hikes within an hour of Portland include: Pleasant Mountain, Douglas Mountain, Rattlesnake Mountain, Bradbury Mountain State Park. A few hikes / walks in Portland include: Back Cove Trail, Mackworth Island Trail and Fore River Sanctuary White Trail.
