La Jolla Cove is stunning. You’ll see seals and sea lions lounging on the rocks above the ocean and people snorkeling and kayaking in the water and hanging out on the cliffs. Lots of great restaurants and shopping. La Jolla has more of an upscale vibe but there are a few more laidback places too.
Monica’s fave sit-down Mexican restaurant, located in Old Town. Festive atmosphere, don’t be surprised if a mariachi band walks up to your table. The margaritas are huge and the food is amazing.
San Diego’s haunted house- it’s located next to a cemetery and a Catholic Church in Old Town. You can find info about tours online.
Lots of museums (including the San Diego museum of art, science, photography, history, natural history, and much more! A botanical garden and Japanese friendship garden are here, too.) Plus there’s a Spanish village filled with local artists shops. The architecture is beautiful and it’s a gorgeous place just to walk around- it’s next door to the San Diego Zoo. The Prado Restaurant is also located in Balboa Park.
Coronado is quaint and laid back, it features a beautiful sandy beach and the historic Hotel Del Coronado. If you’re up early enough, you’ll see Navy Seals running on the sand.
Where California was founded, home of the first mission in California. Lots of Mexican restaurants, shops and museums. Free music nightly before Covid...not sure if that tradition is still going.
Did you know San Diego has a Little Italy? Yep, it’s near downtown/the port, started way back by Italian fisherman who immigrated here. It has a ton of delicious restaurants, gelato and pastry shops, coffee shops and bars. Filipi’s Pizza Grotto is always a safe bet- they have amazing food and a little Italian food store out front.
Possibly San Diego’s most famous taco shop, in the Barrio Logan neighborhood. Still making tacos and menudo the same way they did when they opened in the 1930s. So good.
The BEST street tacos- there are a few locations around the South Bay Area of San Diego.
