On a once-in-a-lifetime rainstorm in Dallas, CA & Pierce planned to meet for dinner at The Henry after matching on Hinge. All of CA's patients for the day cancelled due to flooding, and her ceiling was leaking. As CA was concerned about the safety of roads, Pierce drove around downtown and sent her pictures of the area they'd be meeting to make sure she'd feel safe driving after the flash flood. Pierce was ten minutes early to the reservation (as he was so excited), and CA was twenty minutes late (as she refused to pay $20 to park and circled the block several times before finding a free place to park). The dinner flew by, the conversation was natural, and Pierce requested to see CA the very next day. Since then, the two haven't gone more than a few days at a time without seeing each other.

Pierce originally planned to propose over the Fourth of July weekend when the two of them would be in Seattle. However, when he got the call from the jeweler two days before leaving for France that the ring was ready, it seemed fate that he had to propose there. While staying in Sainte Mere Eglise, the two took a bus to the coastline, found a beautiful spot, and he got down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of their lives together.
