Mahatma Gandhi Road (MG Road), Brigade Road, Church Street and Commercial Street are great for shopping. All centrally located and close to each other, take a walk down these streets to buy your souvenirs, Indian fabrics, outfits and artefacts, get a suit made in any of the suit shops, etc. The little alleys that run off of Commercial street are also great, especially if you want to try your luck at haggling. You'll find that the bigger brands are priced the same in India as anywhere else in the world so we're not sure why you'd want to go there. Visit Marina's favourite used book store- Blossom Book House (the OG, small, cozy branch) that's tucked away on Church Street. Their larger branch which is almost as nice is also on Church Street (this is the bigger one closer to Brigade Road). If you need to visit a mall, we recommend Garuda Mall and Forum Mall, Hosur Road.
Scroll down for individual restaurant recommendations but for your general information there are McDonalds, KFC and Burger King outlets all over the city if nothing else suits you. They don't serve a Big Mac in India, but we do have a Maharaja Burger! Putting this list together was difficult, because there were so many other places that we wanted to suggest but couldn’t keep going forever! We recommend using the app or website Zomato.com/bangalore to find great places to eat and drink based on the vibe/cuisine you're looking for. Listed below are some of our favourites!
Rooftop restaurant and bar. Indian cuisine. Call ahead to reserve a table with a view of the city. We recommend the Butter Chicken!
For a great, traditional thaali meal. We recommend the Koramangala branch as it's less crowded. Order the (unlimited) vegetarian thaali meal and maybe a couple of meat sides. Chris and Marina are planning on inviting all our out of town guests out for a group visit to this restaurant, so check out the menu to see if you'd like to join us!
Bangalore is famous for its microbreweries. Toit is one of the best places to try out Bangalore brewed beer and chill! Yummy pizza, burgers, wings, etc- American, European and some Indian cuisine.
Great European/American food served here for anyone who can't handle or is tired of eating Indian food. Call ahead and book a table.
If you like desserts and ice cream- you have to visit the closest 'Corner House' and try either a 'Death By Chocoloate' or a 'Cake Fudge'. Every banglorean's favourite place for ice cream sundaes.
For the slightly more adventurous, we have to recommend Pecos. It's a Bangalore classic and a great place to try some local cuisine (have the dosa with chicken or beef!) and get a pitcher or two of Kingfisher and just relax, they've always got great music and great vibes. If you do go- make sure you head to very top floor for your table. We will warn you that this place is less fancy than our other suggestions, so if you've got a weak stomach- maybe don't risk it. However Chris has eaten there and he was absolutely fine.
A great place to try a traditional south Indian breakfast! Try the masala dosa, idli, vada and the filter coffee!
Get a taste of Bangalore pub culture here with Indian fusion snacks and drinks. A great place to chill after you shop- located on the famous Church Street.
For those who don't like Indian food- head here for burgers, pasta, pizza, and amazing apple pie! (The steaks aren't as good as what you get in London, etc).
Another great microbrewery to try out and even a great place to hang out in between the ceremony and reception as it's right by the church.
