Christopher showed up and conversed with Macy for a good bit. She finally relented and gave up her dating fast.
I showed up late to adoration one night-- a Tuesday at the UCC (University Catholic Center at UCLA) in May, 2023. Despite the shortened prayer time due to my own tardiness, Jesus granted me a beautiful Holy Hour. In just one hour, He healed a spiritual wound that had plagued my entire academic year. Afterwards, I was chatting with a circle of friends when a new guy in a suit interrupted our conversation, extended his hand, and said, "Hi, my name is Christopher." For the next hour, Christopher made me laugh more than anyone ever had. I learned that the fancy attire was due to his sweet gig at UTA. I left the UCC that night very intrigued by this new character who had entered my life, and quite sure that I may have just met one of my favorite people on the planet. Christopher continued to return to the UCC for community events. The next student dinner, I was hoping he would show up. Twenty minutes in, I saw the back of someone wearing a suit. It had to be Christopher! And it was! We did not talk much then, but I was very happy to see him. That Saturday was the UCC prom, to which Christopher showed up and revealed that he can really tear up a dance floor. He completely stole the show when "Gangnam Style" started playing, which he had requested. He asked me to dance that night. He says I was hesitant to accept, but I remember instantly responding "Yes!" The next student dinner was when I really knew there was something special with Christopher. After dinner had been served, he and I talked from 8pm-12am. Our conversation began by Christopher calling, "Have you ever heard 'Hellfire' in Latin?" while in the circle of a different group of people across the room. He had heard me say that I was interested in watching "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" that night. Our first text message is the link to "Hellfire" in Latin. When it was finally time to leave, Christopher offered to drive me home. I told him thank you, but I only lived about five buildings down the street from the UCC. I headed for the front door but Christopher headed for the stairs that take you to the second floor of the UCC, where the chapel (The Eucharist!) is located. When I asked him where he was going, he responded, "To say good night to Jesus; wanna come?" I was very happy to follow him. After saying good night to the Lord, I accepted his offer to drive me home. The next week was "Study Nights" at the UCC, which Christopher attended even though his academic year had ended weeks prior. He brought books and gifts to either lend or give me, and we talked until 4am most nights. On Tuesday of that week, after he had showed me the entirety of a show he had made, he turned to me and asked, "You wanna do this more often?" I responded, "What do you mean?" Christopher went on, "Like on a date?" I slowly sat on the couch and explained that first-year missionaries (I was about to start my mission year with the Culture Project) were asked to go on a dating fast. Christopher, without hesitation, replied that he would wait until the dating fast ended. But I could not! Within a few weeks, I was asking the Culture Project for special permission to date Christopher and they graciously allowed it. Soon after getting the "yes" from CP, Christopher asked me to be his girlfriend in his favorite chapel at LMU, in the presence of the Eucharist. Many couples use some version of the phrase "I am so glad we found each other", but I would never say that Christopher and I "found each other". It is clear that Jesus Himself gave us to one another as a gift that night at adoration. Since then, aside from God, loving and being loved by Christopher has been the best part of my life.
