The Wedding Website of Cortney Conrad and Christopher Smyth
We are excited to share this beautiful place we call home and hope you can take some time to explore; Durango is a great launching point for adventures! Our venue, Eureka Lodge, is an historic 1920's boarding house tucked in the San Juan mountains about 30 minutes past Silverton, Colorado (which is an hour from Durango). For convenience and mountain-driving reasons, we recommend staying near Silverton from July 17-18. Although Silverton is one of our favorite sleepy little towns, it is quite busy the week of our wedding; it’s hosting a large endurance race and much of the traditional lodging is taken by the athletes and their teams. Never fear- we have some great alternatives and know you will find something that works for you. As many of you are traveling some distance to celebrate with us, we hope you find this information helpful. If you have other places you want to check out or have any questions, feel free to reach out: cortchriswedding2019@gmail.com

Flight

Durango - La Plata County Airport (DRO)

Durango Airport is definitely the most convenient airport. The drive to downtown Durango is ~25 minutes and there are daily flights with American Airlines and United Airlines. Because it is a smaller airport check-in and security is a breeze, but flights are generally more expensive than Albuquerque or Denver. We use it the most often; after factoring in travel time and driving costs, it's often a wash.

Flight

Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ)

Albuquerque is the nearest international airport. It is larger than Durango with more flights and airlines, but is still small enough that for a relatively easy in and out. The drive from Albuquerque airport to downtown Durango takes approximately 3.5-4 hours, a large stretch of which is quite remote (though the Navajo Nation Reservation). The scenery can be beautiful, but there aren't many places to stop after dark.

Flight

Denver International Airport (DEN)

Denver Airport is a regional hub, so there are generally a lot of flights. It is about 6.5 hours from Durango; it's a beautiful drive, but does involve numerous mountain passes and depending on the time of day, traffic can make the trip take an hour or two longer. (The airport is North of Denver, and you'll need to travel South past the city to head for Durango.)

Want to check two items off your list at once and really explore the Southwest?! Consider renting an RV and combine your rental car and lodging costs. There are many places to park in and around Durango, and there is a campground 5 minutes from the wedding venue that would make it even more convenient! Chris stopped by checked out Durango RV Rentals, a local small business, and said there are some very nice ones for pretty reasonable prices. The owners are very helpful.

Rental Car Companies Based at Durango Airport

There are numerous rental car companies operating out of Durango Airport: Alamo, Avis, Enterprise, Hertz, and National.

House Or Rental

Vacation Rentals or Air B&Bs Near Purgatory Resort

Purgatory Mountain Resort is a popular local ski resort in the winter, and a great spot to rent townhouses, condos, or houses in the summer at steeply discounted off-season rates. It is located about halfway between Silverton and Durango with spectacular views and even some summer activities that are fun for the family. The drive between Purgatory and the venue is a little over an hour. We hope to provide a shuttle to/from the wedding venue to help make it easier to take advantage of this option if there are enough people staying there. Eureka Campground

Eureka Campground is just down the hill from the wedding venue (less than 5 minutes!) in a pretty valley near a river (and seasonal waterfall!). For those willing to embrace the Colorado lifestyle, this a great option for the day before and of the wedding. There is tent camping, electric hook-ups for RVs, and even a few rustic cabins (with electricity) for rent. There is also a 4-wheel drive trail just up the road that leads to a mining ghost town that is fun to explore.
