In a case of serendipity, Carrington and Christopher's initial encounter unfolded against the backdrop of another couple’s wedding. It was Carrington's sister, Channing, who was preparing to tie the knot with one of Christopher's closest friends, Trey. As members of the wedding party, Carrington and Christopher found themselves drawn to each other. Their paths first crossed during the rehearsal dinner, leaving them both with a desire to connect again.

It wasn't until the next night, under the lights of the reception's dance floor, that they had their next interaction. At this time Christopher was not aware that Carrington had set her sights on him earlier in the evening, determined to strike up a conversation before the night came to an end. Of course, anyone who knows Carrington, knows that she’s a relatively reserved person. So, despite her determination to speak to Christopher, she was definitely nervous about it, and chose to hang around and dance with the other familiar faces at the wedding for a while before approaching him. In the midst of her dancing, she discreetly asked her sister, Channing, to confirm that Christopher was indeed single —a question that, fortunately for Carrington, yielded a positive response. It was around this time that she noticed Christopher was taking a little break from dancing and Carrington decided that this was the moment. It was also probably a good time for her to take a break too because the heat and excitement of the dance floor was really doing a number on her blowout – those with natural hair will understand! Unbeknownst to Carrington, Christopher had also taken the initiative to inquire about her relationship status from his friend Trey the previous night after the rehearsal dinner. Much like Carrington, he was intrigued by the idea of getting to know her better. As Carrington made her way closer to Christopher at the edge of the dance floor, both were ready to initiate a conversation and to this day, there's some debate as to who actually spoke first. Nevertheless, they definitely struck up a conversation!

They spent the rest of the reception together. Afterward, Carrington and Christopher, along with a few other friends from the wedding, headed to a bar for a wedding “after party," though they really just wanted more time with each other. Unfortunately, the bar at which they found themselves was so loud they couldn't even hear each other talk. After only about 10 minutes of being there, they left together. They then spent the rest of the night (or really just as long as Carrington could bare walking in her heels) strolling the streets of uptown Charlotte talking, laughing, and getting to know each other better. By the night's end, it was clear they wanted to see each other again. Fortunately, they both lived in the Triangle area, with Carrington in Chapel Hill and Christopher in Raleigh. Thus, they effortlessly picked up where they left off, embarking on their first official date in Chapel Hill just a few days later!

In the initial months of their dating, they commuted between Chapel Hill and Raleigh. However, that changed when Christopher moved from his hometown to the Bull City in January of 2020. This was a great move because not only did it cut the distance between Carrington and him in half, but also it gave them the opportunity to fall in love with a new city as they were also falling in love with each other. Soon after Christopher’s move, the COVID pandemic hit and like everyone else in the world, they hunkered down for months of quarantine. Fortunately, they had each other and they cherished the ability to take a short walk from Christopher’s apartment into downtown Durham and enjoy several COVID-safe activities like dining at outdoor patios and taking afternoon strolls around the city. Eventually Carrington made her way to Durham as well in an apartment of her own, which afforded them even more time and opportunities to enjoy the city with each other. Pretty soon, Durham began to feel like home for both of them. It was here that they found their favorite restaurants, bars, and places to spend free time on the weekends. One of those favorite spots was Unscripted, a rooftop bar in the center of the city, which they frequented often for date nights during COVID. This place was especially unique in the winter months when they transformed the rooftop into a winter wonderland with sparkling lights, colorful Christmas trees, and several private, insulated igloo lounges. Then, in January of 2023, Christopher secretly reserved one of these cozy igloos under the stars, knowing it would be a perfect place for a beautiful winter proposal. The night began with the two of them walking into downtown for what Carrington thought would be a regular date night, but ended with Christopher down on one knee! Now, four years after their story's beginning, Carrington and Christopher are thrilled to begin the next chapter of their story with a magical wedding of their own.
