A Cord of Three Cannot Be Broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12 Christo and I met in the most unlikely timing and in an almost nontraditional way. While we were both being pressured by our most loving parents to enter the next stages of our young adult life, after I specifically was told I cannot date until I got married, we found ourselves in an unusual spot. We were both praying and trusting God to bring the right person in our lives, and did not fully expect it to happen in such a way as this. Our mutual friends Sunoj Uncle and Anu Chechi introduced us earlier in 2019 with the premises that there was no pressure and to see how things would go. From our initial conversations to our first phone call, which lasted at least 5 hours, we knew that we wanted to get to know each other more. Despite the 1,629.3 mile distance and 1 hour difference between Houston and New York we have learned that the only way a relationship can work is to laugh together, pray together, and grow together. It may not look like a typical story, but our union is the very proof that God is faithful, and if you trust in Him completely you will never be disappointed. God will always work everything together for your good. Please keep us in prayer as we enter this beautiful promise together on September 5th, 2020.
...Since I am known for the long stories and since we’ve read Joslyn’s cliff notes version I’ll give y ’all the wholeeee story. I had been praying for my soulmate for a year or so and I felt like God was taking a little long to answer my prayers so I know I had to take drastic measures, it was time to fast and pray. I guess God knew I would not be able to do that for too long because I met Joslyn within 3 months. A good mutual friend of ours Sunoj Uncle and Anu Chechi came to visit us for the weekend in Houston. After a full night of conversation around 3am, Sunoj Uncle asks me “Mone ninuke kalyanam kazhikende?” Which translates to don’t you want to get married. I quickly told him I had nothing against getting married, but I haven’t met the right person yet. He proceeded to ask me what qualities I was looking for and being uninterested I responded with the most generic answers I could think of God fearing, family orientated, etc. As I’m listing these qualities, I can see the light bulb going off in his head and he quickly mentions a girl he knows from New York and tries to pull up her Facebook. If y ‘all know Joslyn you know that she has these random hiatus’s from Facebook and this was one of those times, so he couldn’t find her profile. The next day he proceeds to give me more details about her and still with no particular interest, I listen out of respect for Sunoj Uncle. That night be proceeds to show me her picture and at that point, my interest peaked. By the Monday March 25th, I got her number and I shot my shot. On Thursday March 28th, we had our first phone call that lasted over 7 hours and on that day, I knew that I didn’t want to let her get away. Over the next few weeks, we got to know each other better and on April 25th I flew to New York to meet the girl of my dreams. We spent Saturday April 27th in the city and I had the bright idea to get a caricature made of us and on the caricature I had them write will you be mine and the rest was history.
After just a few months of dating, I knew that Joslyn was my soulmate and that I needed to make her mine. With the help of her family and friends, I was able to plan the proposal. I found out from one of her best friends Tina that it was her birthday that weekend and I was able to use that excuse to get her out of the house. Joslyn had mentioned a few of the places she had wished she would be proposed to and one of them was Central Park. On the week of the proposal, I had to build up my lies telling her it was a busy week at work, I had a big proposal at work on Friday, and I hoped this would explain my absence during the week. Friday rolls around and many of my friends flew in to celebrate this day with me. We make our way to Central Park and they quickly leave me to go set up the proposal site. As I stand at the opening of Central Park losing feeling in my fingers and toes, I practice what I’m going to say repeatedly. I see Joslyn from across the street and notice that she sees me and my heart drops. She walks over to me surprised asking me what I’m doing here and tell her I wanted to surprise her for our anniversary. We make our way into our carriage, as she is still shocked to see me. We make our way to Bow Bridge and she asks me “do you hear music?” and I just play it off. As we get closer to the boat dock this guy just walks right in front of us only to take a picture of the entire set up making us awkwardly wait for him to get out of the way so we can get onto the boat dock. We get to the boat dock and by now I’ve forgotten my entire speech, but I was able to get some words out and I asked her to turn around to look at the caricature I got made of us and when she turned around I was down on one knee. I don’t think I even waited for her to answer, because I wanted to make sure to get that ring on her finger before she could change her mind loll. All I can do is give God the glory for blessing me beyond my wildest dreams.
