Travel and Lodging

Below you will find a recommended route to get from Rome’s airport (FCO) to Modena as that is the route most of our guests will likely take. You are more than welcome to fly into another airport based on your personal preferences and you would still follow a similar route of arrival. Please reach out if you have any questions!

Flight

Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO)

This is one of the largest and most popular airports in Italy and you will arrive just outside the center of Rome. As this airport is one of the largest in Italy, utilizing the train system from this airport is very simple and everything is clearly marked!

Train

FCO train to one of Rome’s main stations, Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina

Once you arrive at FCO, you can head to one of the train ticket kiosks and purchase a ticket from FCO to a train station closer to Rome’s city center, Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina. Once your ticket is purchased within the airport, you will take a short walk (~3-5min), to FCO’s train station and catch your train to Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina. These trains run very frequently.

Train

Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina to Bologna Centrale

Once at Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina station, you will catch a train to Bologna Centrale, a large train station in Bologna. You can use the Trainline app which will show you all of the train options available from all of the main companies or you can use company specific apps such as Italo or Trenitalia.

Train

Bologna Centrale to Modena Centrale

You will now take a shorter train ride directly to Modena’s main station, Modena Centrale.

You've Arrived in Modena!

Once you have arrived at Modena Centrale you can walk to your hotel or use the Freenow app to request a car to your hotel.

Travel Note

Quick Tips

- When looking for your specific train, it is easiest to look at the large screens at the station and find your specific train number and then find the platform that train will be leaving from rather than looking for a destination city. Please note the platforms may change or only be updated with short notice so just be aware of your platform on the screen. - Utilize train apps like Trainline, Italo, or Trenitalia to book your train tickets and it is encouraged to do this in advance of your trip as prices will be lower if you get tickets earlier. - If using the ticket apps, you do not need to book two trips (Rome to Bologna and Bologna to Modena) you just need to put your starting point and your destination of Modena and the app will suggest lots of options and you will receive both tickets in the same booking.
