DC has been upping its food game (hheeyyy Michelin stars). The DC foot critic who always has the best recommendations is Tom Sietsema. Here are some of our favorite spots and areas. 14th Street- our favorite neighborhood food & drink wise (and U street nearby has some funky bars) Bad Saint: One of our absolute favorite places (first real date), Hip Filipino spot with great food, very hard to get a table (only two seatings, get there before they open) Compass Rose; AMAZING street food from around the world, another fav date spot! Red Hen: another favorite spot (anniversary's, bdays), great pasta Estadio: Great tapas Cork: Family owned small plates with an extensive wine selection Tico: Great tapas and drinks (try the Hibiscus Margarita) Le Diplomate: French bistro that always draws a crowd--steak frites are delish Maydan: Very interesting menu and the restaurant is centered around the hearth! Duke’s Grocery: Top notch burgers Church Key: HUNDREDS of beers to choose from
City Center/Penn Quarter/Dupont Circle José Andrés: great food, great guy (fed PR after the hurricane): Jaleo, Zaytinya, China Chilcano, Minibar ($) Raskia: Great Indian food, white tables cloth Iron Gate: Very romantic (Anniversary year 3), great food Tabbard Inn: DC's oldest running hotel, great food, English fare H Street/Capital Hill (Where we live!): Toki Underground: One of the first DC restaurants that brought the Ramen scene Maketto: Asian fusion, great noodles & fried chicken Union Market: So many great spots here, fun to check out Chiko: Great Chinese/Korean fusion. Fried rice & chicken are on point St. Anselm: New steak house Stellina Pizzeria: new to union area, tried it once, want to go back DC Wharf (a recent development, really cool spot to walk around & grab a bite) Chloe: Soooo good (parent's dinner spot) Salt Line: Good burgers, more casual spot District Winery: good wine & food, fun spot Del Mare: so good, but pricey & so many more spots!
