Question

What is IslandWood?

Answer

IslandWood is our beautiful venue, and we couldn't be more excited about having our wedding here. Most of the time, the campus provides meaningful environmental learning experiences for youth in the Puget Sound area. The 250-acre campus is a maze of hiking trails, outdoor classrooms, and lots of other fun stuff that we can't wait to explore with you. To learn more about the organization and mission, check out their website (https://islandwood.org/). NOTE: because IslandWood is a non-profit and receives some federal funding for their programs, their rules are a bit different. Specifically, no outside alcohol or drugs of any kind are permitted, even those legal in the state of Washington :)

Question

What is the deal with lodging?

Answer

There are four lodges on the property, each with several guest rooms and a common room. We'll have all of these to ourselves for the weekend. All guest rooms are private, with their own full bathroom. Meals and linens are provided, but you'll want to bring your own toiletries (shampoo, hair dryers, etc.). Bookings should be made at https://ball-johnson-wedding-islandwoodregistration.eventbrite.com/ no later than September 10 and can be made for one or both nights. NOTE: If you will have 2 guests in a room, you only need to purchase 1 weekend stay. If you have more than 2 guests, add stays for the number of additional guests you would like to have in the room with you (maximum of 4 additional guests, 6 total guests per room). For guests wanting a more luxury/traditional lodging option, there are a handful of inns on the island.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Whatever makes you comfortable! We hope you'll take time to enjoy the beautiful natural setting of our venue, and several activities (including our ceremony) will be outdoors. Bring some shoes that are good for walking around and getting a little dirty, something warm, and a wind/waterproof jacket in case we get some of that classic Seattle rain. For the wedding itself, recommended attire is cocktail, but wear whatever makes you feel fabulous.

Question

Do you have recommendations on what else to do while we're in the PNW?

Answer

Of course! We've listed quite a few ideas on our "Extra Adventures" page. Check there for our favorites!

Question

Will there be food I can eat?

Answer

Yes! IslandWood chefs are very experienced in catering to a number of dietary restrictions. Just let us know when you RSVP so we can be sure to communicate your needs to the venue.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

We want this weekend to be spent with our closest family and friends. If your invitation says "and Guest," then yes, otherwise we'd prefer if it was just you!

Question

How do I get from the ferry to IslandWood?

Answer

See our "Travel" page for details! For guests not planning to rent a car, we will have a few shuttles available to pick you up at the Bainbridge ferry terminal and bring you to the venue on Friday afternoon/evening, as well as from IslandWood back to the ferry on Sunday. Please let us know if you're interested in this option when you RSVP so we can plan accordingly. If you have specific concerns/schedule constraints due to flight times on Sunday, please reach out to us directly. Note: taxis/Uber/Lyft are generally not reliable on the island.
