Daniel first laid eyes on Christine at a church retreat when they were just 13 and 14. He would then meet her again at the Vietnamese Student Organization at UF where they both ended up in college. And again when they both landed in graduate school at UF and would bump into each other at the Starbucks at Sun Terrace. They became friends and would occasionally see each other at church on their holidays back in Orlando before realizing what they’ve been missing right under their very eyes.

In 2018 Daniel and Christine went on a date to Disney Springs on his winter break and perused a store that sold cute items including childrens books that caught Christine's eye. The book they stumbled across was called "The Day the Crayons Quit" and it captivated her so much that they stood there and read through the book together. The book was so cute!! The next week, Daniel sent the sequel of the book "The Day the Crayons Came Home" from Baltimore to Christine's office so she could read it. Smooth move, huh? On April 9th, 2022, Daniel invited Christine to hike Superstition Mountains in Arizona. In the middle of the Sonoran Desert, Daniel decided to take a break and pulled out a book for Christine to read. Why would I read something while on a hike, she thought. But it was a book called “Love from the Crayons" and on bended knee, Daniel asked Christine to marry him with a ring nestled inside a box of crayons.
