On the first day of their sophomore year, Christina was moving into her dorm room at WashU (St. Louis, MO) when she met Tony through her roommates. Tony thought Christina was cute, even when she made that off-handed remark about the laundry room down the hallway being "too far". She thought he was energetic, had a little too much free time, and probably didn't study enough. Little did they know that a strong friendship was about to develop.
A year and a half of countless Walmart trips, study sessions, food runs, and jam sessions brought Christina and Tony closer than ever. Tony recounts the times when he considered their hangouts "dates", even if it was spending the night at the library (her idea of fun and productivity, but in reality the worst idea ever). They became the best of friends and had fun doing anything together. Towards the end of their junior year, they decided to take the next step and start dating.
After Tony and Christina started dating, they knew they had an important decision to make after graduating. While they applied to medical school, Christina spent a gap year in Portland, OR while Tony found a job in Madison, WI. The worry of not being in the same place was often on their minds, but they never doubted God's plan and were always sure they could make it work. They ended up starting medical school in two different cities, Detroit, MI and Baltimore, MD. Flying back and forth for 5 years during one of the busiest seasons of their lives came with lots of challenges and compromise. However, by prioritizing and making time for each other every day, they were able to strengthen their relationship in ways they never thought they could.
While visiting Portland, Tony visited the site of one of Christina's favorite childhood gardens. Complete with water, architecture, and wildlife, Tony knew it was the perfect spot. He told Christina he had set up an "appointment" to tour the garden as a possible venue. As part of a scheduled surprise, Tony brought Christina out to brunch, giving Christina's family time to head to the garden and dress up the family dog. After some unexpected delays and Tony "accidentally" going the wrong way to buy time, the stage was set. Together, they walked around the garden and reached the beautiful wooden-plank bridge. Out of the bushes sprung her family and Sunny, their cockapoo. Dangling around the collar was the box containing the ring. (Don't drop it Tony!) And of course... she said yes!!!
Due to pandemic things putting their original wedding date on hold, Tony and Christina tied the knot in May 2020 in a small ceremony in Baltimore to a crowd of 3 people. Shortly after, they moved into their first apartment together and started residency training. Five years of long distance finally came to an end! -- We are so excited to share this next step in our relationship with you all! It's been a long time coming. Thank you for joining us, and we are grateful for each and every one of you.
