Things To Do

We're so excited to share a few of our favorite places/activities with you! Click "View" under each activity for additional information. Whether you choose to use this opportunity to relax and enjoy "small town" life or explore all the area has to offer, we hope that you leave with something new--whether it be a souvenir, memory, or just a good story!

Hit the Links

The area has two local golf courses. Achasta is the closest to downtown Dahlonega, while Chestatee Golf Club is located in Dawsonville. If you need additional golfing info, reach out to Christina. She will be more than happy to put you in touch with the local expert, Greg Jones (her father)!

(Do) Go Chasing Waterfalls

Don't listen to TLC! North Georgia is home to 120 waterfalls, and all are worth exploring! However, we always guide out-of-town visitors to Amicalola Falls State Park to start, home of the 3rd highest waterfall this side of the Mississippi River. It is also one of the first places Scott & Christina visited as a couple!

Wine A Little (Or A Lot)

Need a drink after traveling? You're in luck! Dahlonega is home to 12 wine tasting rooms, 8 wineries, and a brewery/meadery. Montaluce Winery will make you think you are in Tuscany (in fact, we took some of our engagement pictures there!), while Kaya Vineyards offers sweeping mountain views.

Dahlonega Art & Wine Festival

The annual Dahlonega Art & Wine Festival will be set up on the Dahlonega Square from May 20-21st. The festival will include art vendors, crafts, jazz music, and a wine & beer garden. Please note that the festival will increase pedestrian traffic and may cause road closures in the area.

Shop (And Eat) Til You Drop

Take a stroll around the Dahlonega square and discover some hidden (and not so hidden) gems! Some of our favorites include the General Store, Jethro's Coffee & Public House, Gold City Growlers (beer and books!), Bourbon Street Grille (Christina highly recommends the fried chicken sandwich) and Paul Thomas Chocolates (do not miss the chocolate covered bacon or potato chips!). Additionally, Dawsonville is home to the North Georgia Premium Outlets if you'd like to search out some great deals!

Outdoor Adventures (Ranging from Chill to Extreme)

If you are all about adventure, do we have some suggestions for you! Water sports your thing? Bring your swim suit and go tubing or kayaking on the Chestatee River. Too tame for you? Test out your driving skills with go-karts that go up to 55 mph at Atlanta Motorsport Park (located in Dawsonville...we know, it's confusing). STILL too tame for you? Take a roadtrip to Tank Town USA, where you can drive a tank and crush cars with a bulldozer (it's not cheap, but looks awesome!).

I'll Go Anywhere With You (And a View!)

You know that car you rented? Well..time to get some use out of it! The magic of the Georgia mountains can be found in its natural beauty. Take a scenic drive through the Blue Ridge mountains, stop off at an overlook, take in the mountain views and just...breathe. If you have some time to kill, head some of our favorite places in North Georgia: Helen (a Bavarian-style mountain village), Ellijay, Brasstown Bald, and Vogel State Park.
