FAQs

Question

Why are you getting married in Dahlonega?

Answer

The mountains have always been a special place for us. We've made so many memories together hiking the local trails, exploring the mountain towns, and enjoying the slower pace of "mountain life". Getting married in the mountains simply felt right to us! While there are many areas of North Georgia we love, we felt Dahlonega offered our guests the widest variety of lodging and activities to enjoy.

Question

Where will the ceremony and reception be held?

Answer

Both events will take place on the Swan Lake Overlook property. The ceremony will be held outdoors, while the reception will be held indoors.

Question

Can I take pictures/videos during the wedding ceremony?

Answer

We ask that all guests refrain from taking photos/videos during the ceremony. We invite you to be fully present and enjoy our special moment! Please leave all photography during the ceremony to our talented wedding photographer. We will happily share her amazing work after the wedding!

Question

Can I take and post pictures from the wedding reception on social media?

Answer

Yes! We encourage guests to post pictures onto their social media channels. Our only request is that you tag each photo with our wedding hashtag #GoingGaffney so we can keep track of all of your pictures!

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Georgia weather is unpredictable! However, daytime temperatures in May typically range from the high 70s to the upper-80s. We advise guests to check the weather prior to departing for the wedding and prepare for both rain and sunshine!

Question

Are you registered? Where?

Answer

We have carefully curated a registry with gifts from a variety of stores! Please click on the Registry Tab on our website to access our registry.

Question

When should I arrive/depart?

Answer

We know that PTO is valuable, and we are so thankful that you are choosing to take time to celebrate with us! If your schedule allows, we recommend making a long weekend out of your trip. Take a moment to read over the Things to Do and Schedule tabs on the website to help you decide what's right for you.

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

The dress code is semi-formal. We want everyone to look nice but also be comfortable! For women, we suggest lightweight dresses or pantsuits with flats or wedge heels for the outdoor ceremony (now is not the time to break in those 4-inch stilettos!). Men should wear suits (tie optional).

Question

Will there be a seating chart at the reception?

Answer

NOPE! To encourage a fun and casual vibe, we have opted for "cocktail style" seating. This means we will not be assigning seats for the night! We will have a mixture of traditional tables with seating, as well as bar-style highboy tables (perfect for standing and enjoying a drink with others). We encourage guests to move around the room throughout the night, explore the indoor and outdoor spaces, and enjoy each others' company!

Question

Will there be an open bar?

Answer

Our families are Italian and Irish....of course there will be an open bar! Due to our extended reception, please note that the bar will close intermittently throughout the night for brief periods to align with venue and city alcohol policies. Please drink responsibly!

Question

Will transportation be provided to/from venue?

Answer

We will have a complimentary shuttle service available on the day of the wedding. A shuttle will make one trip to the wedding venue prior to the ceremony. The shuttle will begin loading at 2:45 pm at the public parking lot behind 27 on Park on Choice Ave and leave at 3 pm. Return transportation from the venue to the original pickup destination will be provided at 9 pm and 10 pm. Shuttle service will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. For questions, please reach out to Sue Gaffney or Janice Jones

Question

Can I bring my kids?

Answer

To allow all our guests the opportunity to let their hair down and enjoy themselves, we’ve elected to make our wedding a child-free event.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

If your invitation says “and Guest,” then yes. If not, please bring only yourself! We will only be able to accommodate those listed on your invitation.
