Telluride is also at a very high altitude, especially for those of you coming from sea level - the town of Telluride is 8750 feet, San Sophia Overlook is 10,500, and Mountain Village is about 9500. We recommend taking as much time to acclimate to the altitude as you can, drinking plenty of water and wearing sunscreen while you’re here.
Our official wedding events will start on Saturday, but we want to host you for as long as you can be in town! This is the most beautiful part of CO, and we’d love to help recommend local side trips if you’re able to make a vacation out of your time here. Additional days are also always helpful for adjusting to the altitude here, especially if you’re coming from sea level.
If you’re planning to fly, we’d recommend flying into Montrose (1.5 hr drive from Telluride) and taking a shuttle to town from there. For more info on that and other travel options, please check out our Travel page.
You can’t go wrong if you stay in Mountain Village or the Town of Telluride; both are accessible to the gondola, convenient for attending the wedding events and offer walkable shopping and restaurants. The gondola stops running at midnight, and most weekend events will be in (or leave from) Mountain Village so we’d recommend staying in Mountain Village vs in the town of Telluride. There are many condos and townhomes directly within Mountain Village Plaza which is within walking distance to the gondola. However, for those wanting to book larger private homes in Mountain Village, there is a free Dial-A-Ride service that provides free transportation within the town limits and operates seven days a week from 6:30 am to midnight.
Not at all! One of the best parts about visiting Telluride is that once you’ve made it to the area, the free gondola gets you pretty much everywhere you’d want to go.
Over the last 5 years on October 1, average lows in Telluride ranged from the mid-30s to low 50s; average highs ranged from high-40s to mid-60s. Generally you can expect the weather to change quickly and many times throughout the weekend - when the sun is up it can be sunny and warm. Once the sun sets, it’s likely to be cold enough that you’ll want a coat outside.
Our wedding events will be mostly outside, and we’ll walk short distances from the gondola throughout the weekend. Please come prepared for potential weather changes, dress warmly and wear shoes that can stand up to walking on grass and getting in and out of the gondola.
