Forever plus a day

Picture this…Rocky Mount, NC 2016... Christina was a sophomore and K.J. was a freshman. She played basketball for the school while he played football. The college does this event called midnight madness where the boys and girls basketball teams swap players and have a mixed game against each other. I (K.J.) was in attendance and there was a segment where Christina was in the center of the court and the lights went out and the spotlight came on her and she was dancing to the song “juju on that beat” since then she stood out to me. From then on we slowly started hanging out and being around each other until we went outside one day and walked around our campus which was about a mile long. She came outside in her navy blue basketball travel suit and her hair flat ironed (until that night her hair was always in a ponytail, or hair tie). The moon and street light just hit her perfectly and we walked and talked all night. This became a nightly routine and I learned so much about her. At this time I was in a previous relationship with my high school sweetheart, but knew I was unhappy. There came a day where I decided that Christina made me truly happy, and I couldn’t see myself being happy without her (one of the toughest but easiest decisions I have made in my life). From there on I understood what true happiness was for me, and it was being with her, throughout everything. Of course there are little details here and there and experience between us that I didn't dive into at this moment. There were two events that really stood out to me in our past. Christina took me on a 3 mile hike on a random weekend, this was something I never thought to do myself and it showed me that maybe there were bigger things in life that I should try. There was also a Saturday night in college. I worked the front desk checking guest in and out of the dorms and Christina would come in there to hang out with me nightly. There was one day she came to hangout, then went to a party. She came back 30min later and said that she rather spend time with me than be out partying. It really stood out to me. I had never had someone pick me over a college party and it felt amazing after having previous problems that involved parties.
