Technically, we met in spring of 2018, when Laura was assigned to interpret at the lab where Chris worked as a supervisor. Laura took notice of Chris, but they only exchanged pleasantries and life went on. Over a year later, in June of 2019, they struck up a chat on a dating app. Chris noted that he had interacted with a sign language interpreter at his previous job, and "too bad it wasn't you,"....Laura made sure he knew it was indeed her, and still hasn't let Chris live this down (and she probably never will). They went for drinks that very night, and have been inseparable since. Chris was quickly invited to friends and family gatherings, and it became evident this was the match they had both been waiting for. As for the engagement, Chris had done a great job of convincing Laura that while a ring was coming, it wouldn't be soon. Unbeknownst to her, he had already ordered the ring and was booking an engagement photographer for the proposal he was planning for their delayed trip to the Finger Lakes region of New York. Laura didn't make it easy, planning meetups with other wine people, but Chris found a time they would be alone, got the winery staff on board, and all was set. Then...the rain came. A vineyard proposal was looking grim with a virtual wall of water coming down and Laura ready to leave for the hotel. So Chris went for it on the deck of Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery, rain in the background, and gave Laura the surprise of her life! Luckily, the skies cleared ten minutes later, and they enjoyed soaking in the grounds and their engagement the rest of the day and weekend.
