Explore Tissington

We are so lucky to be getting married in such a beautiful area, so we’ve pulled together a list of nice walks and pubs for you to make the most of your time in Derbyshire. Please get in touch if you’d like further advice.
Biggin Walk

Biggin Walk

Main Street, Biggin, Derbyshire

A 6.5 mile walk taking in a wide variety of scenery.

Dovedale

Dovedale

England DE6 1NL, United Kingdom

A 7 mile walk in Dovedale- one of the most beautiful spots in the Peak District. A must do walk if you are staying in the Izaak Walton Hotel. We will be completing a much shorter walk in the same area the morning after the wedding.

Tissington Trail

Tissington Trail

England DE6 1FD, United Kingdom

The Tissington Trail is a pathway on an old railway line. You can hire bikes out at the beginning of the trail at Ashbourne. The pathway also makes a great walk for those of you with pushchairs and young children. There is another great trail through the Manifold Valley which we really recommend for stunning views.

Ilam Park

Ilam Park

England DE6 2AZ, United Kingdom
+44 1335 350310

Ilam Park has a National Trust car park, a tea-room, a shop and beautiful scenery. There is a 1.5 mile walk from the park to the Dovedale stepping stones- a shorter walk but just as beautiful as the others!

Hartington

Hartington

Hartington, England SK17, United Kingdom

Hartington is a picturesque village in the Peak District with a couple of pubs and shops. If you choose to stay in the Charles Cotton Hotel, you must try and explore the beautiful surrounding countryside and this walk is perfect. A Hughes family favourite, this 6 mile walk takes you alongside the River Dove, into several different dales and through many Derbyshire walled fields.

Carsington Water

Carsington Water

Big Lane, Upper Town, England DE6 1ST, United Kingdom
, +44 330 678 0701

Carsington Water is a reservoir close to Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Only a 15 minute drive from Tissington, the activity centre provides access to water sports (paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing) and bike hire. There is a nice cafe with a view over the water too as well as a children’s park.

The George at Alstonefield

The George at Alstonefield

1 Church Lane, Alstonefield, England DE6 2FX, United Kingdom
, +44 1335 310205

We highly recommend this pub for Sunday lunch, dinner or just a quick pint. Set in a beautiful village location close to Ilam and Biggin, this pub has award winning food and a cosy atmosphere.

Devonshire Arms

Devonshire Arms

Market Place, Hartington, England SK17 0AL, United Kingdom
, +44 1298 84884

The Devonshire Arms is in Hartington so makes a great place for lunch if you are walking in the surrounding area or staying at the Charles Cotton Hotel.

Chatsworth House

Chatsworth House

England DE45 1PP, United Kingdom
+44 1246 565300

If walking or cycling isn’t for you, there are several stunning stately homes in Derbyshire for you to visit. Chatsworth is a 35 min drive from Tissington; you can pay to enter the house, the gardens or the fantastic children’s play park! Other stately homes in the area that we would recommend visiting are Haddon Hall and Kedleston Hall.

Bakewell

Bakewell

Bakewell, England DE45, United Kingdom

Bakewell is a beautiful Derbyshire town where the famous Bakewell Pudding was created! If you’d like somewhere to visit, have lunch and visit some shops, we would recommend stopping here; it’s a 30 min drive from Tissington.
