It was a cold day in hell when we met, a balmy 62 on a south Florida winter night at Rhythm & Vine in Fort Lauderdale. As two New Jersey transplants finding each other far from home, we were smitten. Chris had started a six-year post graduate degree in Clinical Psychology, and Steve was working his first job out of college. It wasn't long before things were serious, and yet not so serious as to address the question of whether we could both last long enough in the Florida heat. It was force majeure in 2020 that drove us north back to Jersey, to shelter with our cat Theo and our families, and gave us a taste of what life together with family and friends could look like. When the pandemic subsided, Chris returned to Florida and Steve remained up north with a new job; twenty-three Spirit Airlines flights and two years (and one more cat adoption, welcome Giles!) later, we nervously squished into a single desk chair to read Chris' internship match letter spelling our next destination. We packed up to spend three lovely years in Providence, living with one another for the first time, growing a garden and imagining life beyond the event horizon of a doctoral program. We were engaged on November 9, 2025 in Bar Harbor Maine, to neither of our surprise (we'd each dropped plenty of hints!), on a quiet hike under a blue sky. Calling our friends and family to tell them, the imperative was clear- Come Home! We're very happy to say we are moving "home" to New Jersey in Summer 2026, and that across thousands of miles and nearly eight years, home has always been with each other.
