Things To Do

Take a look at these suggestions for things to do in and around Medellín! Please note, first 6 recommendations are local to Medellín with Calle 13 and Parque Arvi on the outskirts of the city. Just so everyone knows Antioquia is the state in Colombia where Medellin is in. Other recommendations are for rest of Colombia. Porton de Provenza

Some really cool bars and restaurants - great to explore the night life! Very monitored and safe area. If you are walking out of Provenza along calle 10 be more cognizant of your surroundings (less monitored). There are some really nice bars on the other side past calle 10 that are fun and worth checking out.

Calle 13

Calle 13, San Antonio de Prado, Antioquia 050029, Colombia

Visit this transformed neighborhood known for its vibrant street art, powerful history, and lively community vibe. Views of the city from the top. Includes walking uphill, they do have escalators in some steep spots. Can get here by taking the train followed by a short bus ride to the entrance (direct bus, advertised well), or just Uber there. There are several people who will offer tours at the entrance, they do provide some interesting info about the history and cool shops/galleries to check out but not needed.

Museo El Castillo

Museo El Castillo, Medellín, Antioquia 050022, Colombia

1930s Gothic-style mansion inspired by France's Loire Valley castles, housing a rich collection of European and Colombian decorative arts, including paintings, sculptures, and antique furniture, set within beautifully landscaped gardens. Very very beautiful area, and not crowded.

Plaza Botero - Medellín, Antioquia

Avenida Carabobo, Medellín, Antioquia 050010, Colombia

See larger-than-life sculptures by Colombian artist Fernando Botero in this open-air museum in the heart of downtown. The surrounding area is fairly crowded, be aware of your surroundings. Getting in and out can take longer by car, Metro can be an easy way in and out.

Museum of Antioquia

Discover Colombian art and history, including a major collection of works by Fernando Botero. This is right next to Plaza Botero.

Parque Arví

Antioquia, Colombia

Escape the city with a trip to this ecological nature reserve featuring hiking trails, local markets, and guided tours. You would need to talk a Metro Cable cart(from one of the metro stations) up past the local neighborhoods. Caution: the line for this can be long during rush hour as this is a primary means to go home for lots of people.

El Peñol-Guatapé

El Peñol-Guatapé, Guatape, Antioquia, Colombia

El Peñol, also known as La Piedra del Peñol, is a massive granite monolith rising over 200 meters above the surrounding landscape near Guatapé, Colombia, offering panoramic views from its summit, which is reached via a staircase of over 700 steps. Expect steep steps if you are trying to go to the top. Do visit the town of Guatapé - a vibrant lakeside town in Colombia known for its colorful, mural-covered buildings and charming cobblestone streets, offering a picturesque and culturally rich escape. 2 hour drive from Medellín.

Coffee Axis

The Eje Cafetero (Coffee Triangle) in central Colombia is known for its lush landscapes, vibrant coffee culture, and charming towns like Armenia, Manizales, and Pereira. You can access all of these cities by plane. Bus rides are 15 hour + rides. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it’s the heart of Colombia’s coffee industry, where visitors can tour coffee farms and taste world-class coffee. Nature enthusiasts will love the Cocora Valley, famous for its towering wax palms, and Los Nevados National Park, with snow-capped mountains and scenic hikes. Santa Marta

It is the gateway to Tayrona National Park, famous for its pristine beaches, lush jungles, and ancient indigenous ruins. Tayrona is a seperate bus ride away from Santa Marta. You can find accomodations to stay in in Tayrona as well. Santa Marta itself boasts a charming historic center, with colonial architecture and the Cathedral of Santa Marta, one of the oldest in the Americas. Visitors can also explore the Ciudad Perdida (Lost City), an ancient archaeological site hidden deep in the Sierra Nevada mountains(multi day hike), or relax along the beaches of Taganga. For a more tranquil beach experience, Costeño Beach offers a laid-back atmosphere with opportunities for surfing, yoga, and tubing on the El Buritica River. With its rich history and breathtaking landscapes, Santa Marta offers a perfect blend of adventure, culture, and relaxation.
